Sybil’s Garage Authors to Date September 4, 2007 – Posted in: Sybil's Garage
In the interest of information sharing and in preparation for the Semantic Web, I’m providing a list of all the authors, poets, and interviewees ever printed in Sybil’s Garage.
One day, I would like to ask my computer the question, “What was the first issue in which Jorge Louis Borges was printed in F&SF Magazine?” and the computer will respond without me having to search Wikipedia, F&SF websites, or other databases. The computer, understanding context and semantics, will be able to figure that out on its own. It will be searching those information sources. How cool will that be?
Anyway, enough woolgathering. Here’s the list.

Was Borges ever in F&SF? I know that Anthony Boucher (the founder/creator of F&SF) was the first person to translate Borges into English, and he did so for Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine (where he was the editor for a while), but I don’t think he did the same for F&SF.

At ReaderCon last year, someone suggested that Borges’s first English story was printed in F&SF. But the book I’m reading now agrees with you, John, and says that it was Ellery Queen. I believe the individual may have confused the two. The story he mentioned was a story called “The Circular Ruins,” if I recall.
