Aeon Sux
Here’s a quick picture of my fire escape. The good news is no one lives above me, because if there was a fire, well, they might have trouble descending this ladder. The picture was taken with a cheapo digital given to my mother for faithfully shopping at JCPenny for a number of years. She already has a camera I bought her, so she gave me this one. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but don’t the colors suck?
The Solar Flare sci-fi news blog reports that the Aeon Flux trailer is online. I remember the MTV animation fondly, coming back from a night of whatever and turning on Aeon Flux, clad in her black leather outfit, as she ambled throughout her dystopian world. For those who have seen the series, perhaps you will remember the fantastic aesthetic the artists conjured up with Aeon’s world. Well, in my opinion, the video trailer linked above completely lacks the original’s imagination. They might as well be filming the scenes inside a San Francisco office building. There’s no imagination, no aesthetic, no creativity in the sets that marked the original series. The animated Aeon Flux had this dark, brooding quality about her. But the film version of her might as well be Angelina Jolie. And look at the poses they have her in. I’ve seen better poses in cheap porn. And her hair!!!! They completely missed Aeon’s unique hairstyle, and opted for the “Vidal Sassoon” look. Oh, la-la! But what pisses me off the most is that the original Aeon Flux was weird, yet this new one looks about as odd as a trip to the local shopping mall. Nothing to see here, move along.
Japan is testing its replacement for the Concorde next month. It’s about time someone produces a new airplane. And where are all those space planes we were promised? Stanley Kubrick, you lied! 2001 was four years ago. At this rate we’ll get to Mars sometime around 2235. Maybe I can freeze my body until then.

I agree, it doesn’t look like Aeon Flux to me. I wish it had a more surreal, twisted look to it. I think you’d need Kubrick for something like that, maybe with a bit of Tim Burton added to it. And a touch of the director from Memento.
That said, the trailer looks pretty decent. I’d go and see it.
I never watched Aeon Flux so I can’t comment on that, but your fire escape is beautiful. One question, though. Never mind the people upstairs, what happens to YOU in a fire?
I burn and die. Or a few plants get trampled.
